Well hello again all Mercury class members near and far!!
It’s time for a class update!!

So Perry Cup 2, 3, and 4 were canceled because of stormy weather as was Mid-Winters…..As many of us had hopes of getting the season back on track in March, Nor Cal #1 and So Cal #1 both were canceled due to, yep you guessed it, STORMY weather!

A few of us started to think “when will I get to race again?” Finally Nor Cal #2, once the clouds parted, the racing got going! Randy Smith pulled off a nice win in some “not normal” conditions! So Cal #2 has been postponed, but they are sure to make it up sometime in May.

A reminder, the SB Spring Regatta in Santa Barbra is May 4th and 5th……….Please let GT know as soon as possible if you are planning on attending. This is a great venue and you don’t want to miss the chance to get some more Travel Trophy points!!! There is plenty of good racing coming up after Santa Barbra. Nor Cal and So Cal series in May and June, the Hart Nunes and High Sierra Regatta’s in July! Don’t forget to get your boat weighted if you are racing in the Nationals in Richmond! AND, if you know you are going to attend the National Championships this year, please shoot an email to Lyn Hines to let him know, as he is the point person for this event this year.

On a personal note: For those of you that didn’t know, my longtime girlfriend, partner in crime, crew, and the love of my life Pam suddenly and most unexpectedly passed away in February. She had the most beautiful, kind and gentle spirit about her that never seem to change, even during the tensest moments racing our mercury together. For a person who had never sailed before she met me, and to get thrown in with the likes of the Mercury Fleet, it was truly wonderful how quickly she became friends with many of you. But, that’s who she was.

I look forward to seeing you on the water soon.
