Best Racing Venues In California!

For over 73 years the Mercury Class Yacht Racing Association (MCYRA) has been racing throughout California. For 2018 the class continues to thrive and grow with great racing throughout all of California.   We have expanded the class archive section with some great historical docs and images with more to be added. And as always use the site learn about our history of competitive racing on the water and and family oriented activities off the water.

In 2018 we continue to attract top sailors in the best California racing venues but we don't forget to have fun. With regattas hosted in the San Francisco bay area, Carmel, Monterey, Huntington Lake in the Sierras, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and San Diego great competition is close by and always a challenge! Our active regatta schedule has events occurring every month of the year.  Mercury sailboats are easy to store, trailer and launch. And you can get started on a budget with competitive used boats starting around $1000. For a closer look at a boat or a test sail as a crew contact a fleet representative

2018-19 Perry Cup Series Opener ๐Ÿ“ธ ๐Ÿ”Š

This last weekend, Nov 3-4, in Monterey, 14 boats were treated to the elements which make Monterey special. Blue skies, big swells, wildlife and a 11 knot breeze. It offered up a great inauguration to the Perry Cup series spread over the winter months.
Local sailors turned out and profited from their bay knowledge to place in the standings but it was great to see some people just come out to enjoy the sailing and crowd.

2018 Homecoming Regatta

The 2018 Homecoming regatta, which coincided with the 75 anniversary of the Sausalito Yacht Club, was fun for all. This year because of technical issues with the crane used last year, another venue was sought. The Richmond Yacht Club, a fan of Mercury's and of one-design classes in general, stepped up to host the day's sailing.

2018 Pacific Coast Championship ๐Ÿ“ธ ๐Ÿ”Š

Southern California sailors and one Northern California sailor enjoyed decent sailing both Saturday and Sunday despite some influence from a hurricane to the South. Saturday required some patience to get going but by the fourth race of the day, Hurricane Gulch was living up to its name with 15 knot breeze.

From The Prez, October 2018...

Hello Fellow Mercury Class Members!
Been awhile since I last reported on the happenings in the class, but hey, itโ€™s been a busy summer!! Hereโ€™s a recap!

Hart Nunes, San Francisco Y.C. another excellent job of putting on a fun day of racing. Chris & Jeff Lanzfame coming away with the win!

Then there was Huntington Lake! Beautiful weather (a little smoky at times from Yosemite fire) and nice breeze as, usual. Once again there were some new comers to the lake (if you can believe that), Dave Bacci in 548 and John Ravizza in 537โ€ฆโ€ฆ.Dave West and Tony Basso get the win.

The National Championships in Los Angelesโ€ฆโ€ฆChris Messano and Doug McLain pulled off 5 first place finishes! Which has never been done in the Mercury class before. Big congratulations to Chris! Also, the Los Angeles Yacht Club did a fantastic job of putting on the regatta. From the club house staff, volunteers, food staff, and of course the race committee. Who did a very good job of keeping us on our toes!

Labor Day in Carmelโ€ฆโ€ฆ..Dick Clark and staff did another excellent job. Some different conditions from Saturday to Sunday (the later having a more than usual southerly swell condition). Doug Baird winning once again. We really need to try and get more boats there next year!

Thatโ€™s the summer wrap up! Crazy fun racing had by all!

As we move into the fall, PCC at Los Angeles Y.C. September 29th and 30th, Homecoming October 20th (which has been moved to Richmond Y.C., since there is no longer a Hoist for us to use in Sausalito), Perry Cup in Monterey starts off with 2 days of racing November 3rd and 4th followed by the Fall One Design 10th and 11th hosted by Cabrillo Beach Y.C.

Lots of great racing in some great venues coming up, so get your boat out and go sailing!

See you on the water!
