Baird Wins Light Air Regatta
Six Mercs were entered to race in this annual regatta in Santa Barbara. The weather was nice, but the wind gods were pretty tricky.
The first race looked to be the beginning of a great day with the breeze at about 10 knots, but this faded into a very unpredictable day. The sea was sloppy and bouncing off the breakwater and those who sailed father out did better. The Mercs, on day one, did get four races completed as they went late in the day.
Day two had light winds and by the time one race was completed, the fleet called it a day.
Doug Baird and Mac Kilpatrick won the regatta. Mike and Kyle Burch placed second, a point ahead of the McCormacks.
