Mercury Class Yacht Racing Association

The 2018 Homecoming regatta, which coincided with the 75 anniversary of the Sausalito Yacht Club, was fun for all. This year because of technical issues with the crane used last year, another venue was sought. The Richmond Yacht Club, a fan of Mercury's and of one-design classes in general, stepped up to host the day's sailing.

9 boats from the Bay Area, and Park Densmore representing the SoCal fleet, were treated to a sunny day and fairly steady breeze without too much chop. Races started on time with 8-10 knts favoring the left side of the course for most of the day. There was a bit of a light spell after the first race but the wind filled in to stay for the rest of the day.
Courses were simple “paper clips” as Fred Paxton described them, starting and finishing midcourse, as well as a midcourse “gate” as a required part of the course.
Racing was close and in particular at the weather mark where some "action" ensued. The day's sailing would not have been possible without RYC's Fred Paxton and also the Mercury sailors who volunteered to help the RYC Pumpkin Regatta.
