The 2018 Fall One Design Regatta at the Cabrillo Beach YC, the last of the 2018 George Rosman Travel Trophy Series was held thanks to the work by Mike Burch and the Cabrillo Beach YC. “Well we had some pretty different conditions for the weekend but fun was had by all.

A few new faces, Scott Easom came down from up north with an absolutely beautiful boat. Tom Priest couldn't make the regatta and lent his boat out to Tony Collins with Richard Welsh onboard (Cal 20 owner and Cal 20 Class president). Don Whelan recruited a first time Mercury sailor for crew and I think might have a steady crew.  Park had Greg Rodgers a small boat sailor from CBYC onboard and Lyn Hines had Gordon Leon onboard for his first go around on a Mercury. Gordon owns a Farr 40 and a Cal 20. The only two boats with familiar crew was Hal and Ann McCormick and I had my son Kyle on Saturday and Kristen came on Sunday. Five first time Mercury sailors for the regatta.“

Sailing wise, the wind was on the light side and the thing I learned was, when the wind is light and unpredictable, “go to the wall”. Scot Easom “I wish you guys would just make up your minds. Is it left or right?”
Though the courses were steady, there was at least one brief swing making the course a one tack beat. No ground given with close finishes with 3 boats overlapped at times.
The racing missed Doug Baird who was ready to go but decided to “pull the plug” when his 101 route from Santa Barbara was shut down because of the massive fires and evacuations.
